Position description

Transparentum is a US-based non-profit organization that promotes the well-being of workers and communities by highlighting the harsh truths with those who have the power to change industries, primarily products manufactured from global supply chains. . Our goal is to end environmental and human rights abuses in the global supply chain. We are currently focusing on the apparel and footwear industries.

We are looking for a Strategic Engagement Project Manager to join our Strategic Engagement Team. The team prepares and writes corrective recommendations for companies after each Transparentem investigation. Provides adequate relief through secondary investigation. Develop engagement strategies with brands, retailers, and other stakeholders. And manage external communications after each project. Additionally, the Strategic Engagement team works as an internal fitness and company engagement specialist for the rest of the organization. This is not a guardian status.

 Candidates who fill this position will have solid experience in labor chain violations in the supply chain and labor and written communication skills. In this position, the selected candidate :

  • Identify and benchmark best practices for remediation for specific human rights and environmental abuses to inform plans of action for brands and retailers;
  • Draft content for Transparentem’s original reporting on supply chain abuses found by our investigators, providing remediation recommendations for primary audiences of companies, or others well-positioned to improve conditions;
  • Analyze the appropriateness and effectiveness of company responses to Transparentem’s engagement and remediation recommendations;
  • Draft content for Transparentem’s original reporting on company responses to our investigations, for secondary audiences of investors, regulators, labor advocates, or other others well-positioned to advance improvements;
  • Manage creation of presentation materials for meetings with stakeholders identified above; 
  • Engage directly with companies and other stakeholders on Transparentem’s behalf, as assigned;
  • Assist the Strategic Engagement Team and Transparentem’s Grants Manager with in-house reporting on key project metrics and monitoring activities;
  • Keep abreast of relevant research, trends, and news.
  • Be willing to travel domestically and internationally (less than 20% of the time) in order to carry out the above areas of work. (Travel is not currently required due to the COVID-19 pandemic).
  • The role reports to the Deputy Vice President of Strategic Engagement.

  Qualifications:  

What we’re looking for

This is a challenging role that requires total discretion, as well as strong research, writing, analytical, and organizational skills.

We are looking for individuals with:

  • 7+ years relevant work experience, including duties producing in-depth reporting on corporate responsibility issues, analysis of complex material for multiple audiences, and engagement with multiple stakeholders pursuing solutions to endemic supply chain issues;
  • Engagement or advocacy experience with brands, multi-stakeholder initiatives, industry associations, and/or similar groups;
  • A solid grounding in human rights, labor, and/or environmental issues in apparel supply chains;
  • Familiarity with best practices globally sourcing corporations must adopt to ensure protection of workers’ rights, support for decent working conditions and environmental protection, and development of ethical supply chains;
  • Understanding of remedial actions companies should undertake when labor or environmental issues are uncovered in their supply chains.
  • Ability to articulate to companies why they should strive to be leaders in social responsibility practices;
  • Demonstrated interest in corporate accountability;
  • Proven writing and communications skills, particularly to audiences that include representatives from companies, investor groups, advocacy organizations, and regulatory bodies;
  • Strong organizational and project management skills and extraordinary attention to detail;
  • Fluency in English;
  • US work authorization required.

 A plus if you have: 


  • Experience with sourcing or compliance teams in supply chains;
  • Experience of working at multi-stakeholder initiatives (MSIs);
  • Experience as a reporter and/or journalist;
  • Professional communications experience;
  • Experience in collaborative engagement or meeting facilitation;
  • Field experience in production countries;
  • Demonstrated capacity to work a small, agile work environment; or
  • An advanced degree in supply chain management, business administration, human rights, law, journalism or other related field.

Compensation:  $95,000 - $105,000, commensurate with experience, and a competitive benefits package
